This book was the only book Robert Paltock ever wrote, as least as far as I have been unable to deduce. This book plays a part in the history of the community where I live, Arkoe, the name drawn from Paltock's book by our town's founder. Or so, that's the story as originally given. I was given a copy of this book to read as part of the research of our town's history and I found it be be a very engaging and pleasant read. It is sad this author did not continue his adventure stories. He is considered one of the early fantasy writers and certainly knew what he was doing. While some of the names of the characters can be a bit difficult to pronounce at first, this is certainly a must-read. It certainly rivals Jules Verne's later works.It is wonderful that this is available on Kindle, too, as I had to return the borrowed copy of the book I originally read. I hope to read this story again. Like all really good stories, it takes on a timeless feel to it and there are new discoveries to be made with each new reading.
