A drug running bike gang, a corrupted justice system, and new love collide. New Zealand’s Justice system is compromised by a brutal drug running bike gang. The government assigns employee, Iain Morrissey, the task of finding hidden computer code. Iain, a timid, OCD driven man, finds his dream girl. The dream disintegrates into a life-threatening nightmare as her dark past and his current work project thrust them into the cross hairs of the gang. Iain must come out of hiding to save his love, his life and his entire existence. A story of love, lies, drugs, violence, kidnapping and ultimately justice. ********************* Robert Dugoni - New York Times Best Selling Author of Murder One says … In Tough Justice, Russell Turney has created a protagonist, Iain Morrissey, that is part Monk and part Jack Reacher. Morrissey propels the reader along a crash course of danger and intrigue using his wit and his brawn and the suspense is often at a fever pitch because Morrissey can’t deny his obsessive compulsive disorder. I’m looking forward to reading more.

At first, I wanted to take a star off my rating for taste reasons--the story was just a little too dark and violent for me. But then the critic in me realized that this book deserves that last star because of how dark it was. I mean, the bad guy is REALLY bad. Russell Turney is very good at creating dimensional characters with different facets to their personalities. For instance, one of the "bad" guys does some good things at different points in the story, showing that he's not all bad. Also, the main good characters have some flaws of their own, which makes this story very down to earth and lifelike. The hero is just a normal guy who falls in love with a girl and feels the need to protect her.

One aspect that I was very impressed about was how one character was introduced. He was brought into the story in such a way as to make him extremely likable, and then Turney does something very interesting with that particular character. I wish I could avoid being so mysterious about that, but any more information would give away a major element to the story. I just loved this aspect to the story so much that I felt the need to mention it. It's just another example of this writer's awesome ability to create interesting characters.

I think my favorite part of this book was PINE, a secret group of undercover elite agents, some of whom are assigned to protect the main characters. They're pretty awesome, and I really enjoyed the interaction between them and Iain. There's also never a dull moment in this story, which can be hard to do when introducing so many characters.

This is definitely worth reading, especially if you like character-driven stories. There's a shocking twist at the end that I didn't catch until about a paragraph before it was revealed to the main character. That was awesome. Turney also leaves a few loose ends, which I hope will lead to a sequel. As long as you can take a little darkness in your reading, I recommend this one.

This was a decent first book. Russell is learning his trade. I look forward to reading future books in this series.
This was exciting and believable. A balance of emotion and action. Showing human character at its best and at its worst. Highly recommend. Waiting for more )
The characters are quirky, complex, and realistic. The author keeps you wondering what will happen next. Tough Justice was a fun ride and a great read. It was hard to say goodbye to the characters on the last page. Sequel please.
